Brake Baseplate rear, for Vespa PK/S/XL/XL2/FL Vespa PK/S/XL/XL2/FL Brake back plate Vespa. Essential component for any rebuild, check whenever you work on the brakes, and replace of necessary. Vespas in general use a pressed-up construction with a trailing link connected to the tube construction of the fork. The models with a drum brake then have a brake back plate bolted to the link. On one side of this baseplate there are the pivot studs on which the brake shoes sit, on the other side there is the cam that actuates the brake and pushes the shoes towards the brake drum. All of the Smallframe models use the same principle for the rear brake. Brake back plates are no wear parts usually. Still cracks and damage does occur. Even when these are only near the outside perimeter of the round plate the sealing of the brake against road grime may no longer work as it should. With cracks, or whatever other damage, it is obvious anyway that you should replace the plate. This aside, the brake back plate also houses the through-hole for the brake cam. With regularly applied copper or high temperature grease this is a durable enough design. Unfortunately not all scooters where maintained as meticulously as one would wish throughout their often long live; hence we strongly recommend checking the shaft of the cam for wear, also make sure the through hole is not damaged. If this should be the case you should under all circumstances replace the brake backplate. You shouldn’t compromise when brakes are concerned! Brake components are replacement for missing original parts. Ideal for building an engine up from scratch with new parts. Replacement for worn components. Smallframe Smallframe models also use a brake back plate with two pivot bolts and a through hole for the shaft of the brake cam for the rear brake. The brake backplate must be chosen, together with the brake drum, to match the clutch cover (V/PV needs to be combined with V/PV brake back plate). The SIP brake back plate can be combined with all clutch covers. That means you may combine a PK engine, or a PK XL 2 clutch cover with the brake drum of the older models. Make sure you include the gasket that sits under the brake backplate in your order. Fit the brake shoes with copper or high temperature grease on the pivot pins and on the brake cam, also grease the shaft of the cam with copper or high temperature grease. Conclusion: Brakes are relevant for your safety. With new components available there is no reason to use worn parts or parts with an unknown history. The Best Setup - our SIP TIP: The new brake back plate works best with new brake shoes such as the SIP PERFORMANCE, art. no. 87330100, or the PK brake drums PK art. no. 24277910.###215934 (out of production)
