The Malossi MHR Ø 47.6 thermal unit is a high-quality product made of aluminum. The cylinder is made with a special alloy of aluminum with a high percentage of silicon and titanium, which guarantees high resistance to high temperatures.
Thanks to a special heat treatment of tempering and stabilization, the material maintains its mechanical and dimensional characteristics constant up to temperatures of 250°C. The machining by chip removal is carried out with precision on numerically controlled work centers, guaranteeing very tight dimensional and shape tolerances.
The internal surface of the cylinder is coated with silicon carbides on a nickel matrix, heat-treated to guarantee high hardness and remarkable wear resistance. The internal machining of the cylinder allows for a very precise finish on the sliding walls.
The exhaust and transfer diagrams have been specifically designed and made for competition, with a significant commitment from Malossi technicians. The piston is made with a special alloy with a high percentage of silicon, guaranteeing resistance to heat and deformation to temperature variations. The external tin coating reduces the friction coefficient.
The structure of the piston is reinforced to withstand the stresses of a competition thermal unit, but at the same time, it is lightweight to reduce inertia forces. The piston ring is made of spheroidal graphite cast iron with a hard chrome overlay on the outer surface. The segments are made of spheroidal graphite cast iron with high mechanical resistance, with a hard chrome anti-wear overlay on the contact surface.
The head of the thermal unit is made with a special alloy of aluminum with a high coefficient of heat exchange. The heat exchange surfaces have been recalculated and increased, and the combustion chamber has been completely redesigned for a high compression ratio with high turbulence. The head processing is carried out on numerically controlled machines.
