The Malossi crankshaft is a fundamental component for Vespa scooters, as it manages the movements of the connecting rod and piston and regulates the intake through the phasing of the half-shoulder. Malossi has created two versions of the crankshaft, developing innovative solutions.
The crankshafts are made of high-quality hardened steel, ensuring resistance to scratches.
The connecting rod has a design aimed at reducing weight and ensuring rigidity. The threading of the transmission side shaft has also been improved to increase strength. The position of the key has been revised to not affect the threading. The crankshafts are supplied with special, more resistant nuts.
Various connecting rod lengths are available for small frame Vespas. The crankshaft dedicated to engines with rotary valve has standard measurements. The intake phase is obtained inside the half-shoulder, ensuring effective fluid dynamics. Malossi has solved the problem of balancing Vespa crankshafts by including tungsten inserts as counterweights to increase stability.
