The Malossi crankshaft with a Ø 16 piston pin, 110 connecting rod, and 60 mm stroke is designed for engines with reed valve. This component is extremely delicate and important for the operation of the Vespa engine, as it manages the movements of the connecting rod and piston and regulates the intake through the phasing of the half-shoulder.

Malossi engineers have dedicated particular attention to these aspects, creating two versions of the crankshaft and developing innovative and highly technical solutions, using high-quality materials such as hardened aeronautical steel. This material is highly resistant to scratches and certified according to Malossi's rigorous standards.

The viper head connecting rod is designed to minimize weight and ensure necessary rigidity. Even the smallest details have been taken care of, such as the threading of the transmission side shaft of the crankshafts, which has been improved to increase its strength. The position of the key has also been revised to avoid damaging the threading and contribute to overall resistance.

The crankshafts are supplied with special, more resistant nuts that take advantage of the increased strength offered by tighter threading. Different connecting rod lengths are available for small frame Vespas that require the full shoulder crankshaft. The crankshaft dedicated to engines with rotary valve has a standard stroke and connecting rod length.

The full shoulder Malossi crankshaft, on the other hand, is specifically designed for Vespa engines modified to use a reed valve intake system instead of the original rotary valve. This crankshaft represents the new frontier for Vespa enthusiasts. Like the rotary valve version, optimal balance is guaranteed by tungsten inserts. Furthermore, the transmission side half-shoulder features specially designed chamfers to facilitate the entry of fresh gases into the crankcase. The circular mass structure benefits greatly from this new crankshaft and crankcase configuration, receiving the maximum possible amount of pressure.
