Ignition HPI Minitronik 'Free', 20mm, for Vespa PK50-125/S/XL 20mm, for Vespa PK50-125/S/XL/XL2/ETS, cone 20/20mm/ 20/24mm, M12, incl. stator plate, ignitioncoil, 60 Watt, freelyprogrammable For race use only. Not admitted in the area of the German StVZO! The new 'Minitronik' ignition from HPI has a genuine lightweight design. Its general appearance is similar to that of the IDM based ignition unit used on other (Vespatronic, Pinasco, Malossi, etc) ignitions, but it is much more compact. The rotor has an outer diameter of only 71.5mm and a total weight, including the CNC machined flywheel, of just 650 gr. This not only makes the whole assembly very light, but the majority of its mass is also confined within a tighter radius. This creates a larger potential performance, as the motors power has less peripheral mass to mobilise. The main drawback of this type of ignition are the poor, irregular running characteristics at low revs. A low-weight ignition is not suited for everyday road-going use as the motors behaviour quickly becomes more annoying than enjoyable. It is however ideal for race-track/off-road use where its full potential can be exploited. During racing a motor is used at constant high revs and at its limits. This ignition successfully combines its low weight with the production of sufficient power for lighting and a reliable supply of cooling air to the cylinder. The 60W produced can supply lighting during night-racing and also peripheral electrical components, such as a fuel pump or cockpit instrumentation. We have two versions of this ignition available : 'Fixed' : With two pre-programmed ignition curves which can be adjusted using the plug connection for 25° every 1000 rpm with 2.5°. They differ in the initial rpm value required towards retard. 'Free' : Freely programmable, with two switch-able ignition curves. To program these custom ignition curves an interface with software (#50007300) is required and the required curve can be selected during racing using the included switch mechanism. The HPI ignition does not include a slot and woodruff key positioning system but remains quite simple to mount and full English instructions are included in the delivery. The plug connections are of the high-end variety. Do not forget to order a 27 x 1mm left-threaded flywheel remover tool (#BU5250) Conclusion: The ideal ignition for race-track use at excellent value for money! SIP-TIP : Do not forget to order a new spark plug and cap!
